Incorporating your heritage
into your ceremony is a
unique and meaningful way
to make your wedding
stand out--especially if you
are inviting guests who are
not familiar with your
cultural traditions.
“Ambience, ambience, ambience,” says Event and
Wedding Decorator DeJuan Stroud, who has done
the weddings of Jon Bon Jovi and Robert DeNiro,
as well as the opening night parties for “King
Kong” and “The Producers.” Stage a dramatic
backdrop and create the table setting/centerpiece
to be more understated, not tall or showy, so
guests can talk and share their favorite stories.
1000 BEST SECRETS
The next big thing for themed weddings is the
Moroccan style, according to Sharon Naylore,
author of 28 wedding books including 1000 Best
Secrets for Your Perfect Wedding. She sees very exotic
themes emerging with jeweled tones like reds,
purples and chocolate browns, rich fabrics hung
from the ceiling, and globolights (metal or glass
disks that are laser cut or shaded to project an
image). She also notes that creating a unique
personal experience is huge this year, with couples using lots of monograms, elements
of their love story, and personal touches.
SURPRISE THEM
INTERFAITHFAMILY.COM
Joyce Scardina Becke, wedding expert and
author of Countdown to Your Perfect Wedding,
gives readers this advice when planning a
themed wedding, “Keep it a secret. Just like a
great movie, you would never want to tell your
best friend the whole story. If you start telling
everyone about all the details of your wedding,
they will not only be attending your wedding,
but critiquing it! On your stellar day, let them
experience the Oscar-winning performance
while you savor the standing ovation.” Whether
you scream “I do” with an over-the-top elaborate celebration or whisper it with an understated reception, be sure to make it your own
and enjoy.
Personal Keepsake for the Bride
and Groom
Remember those old Polaroid instant cameras? You know, we used to use them back before everyone had
a digital camera with a preview screen, when the only way to see a picture instantly was to take it with
one of these? Well, it's time to break out that golden oldie for a comeback tour! While your guests are
enjoying your unique and personally embellished wedding, you will be getting an equally unique and
personally embellished guest book. Instead of having your guests sign a traditional guest book, have
someone go around with an instant camera (or a few) and take pictures of each guest. Paste them into
the guest book immediately and have each guest sign next to their picture. By the end of the night you
will already have your first wedding album to look through! It's guaranteed be more fun to look through than
page after page of signed names and generic "Congratulations!" in different handwritings. Your guests will have a ball hamming
it up for the camera, and you and your new hubby will wind up with something you can look through and reminisce over even before
your professional wedding album and video have been finalized.
Remember the night!
