Classic Elegance
By Mary E. Hart
Russo Tux Shop (617-889-1004, ext. 0) is
the North Shore’s largest in-stock formalwear retailer. With over 3,000 tuxedos, suits,
and accessories in stock, they have everything you need to help choose the right
outfit for your wedding. Maria Russo says,
“A groom should try on many different formalwear styles before making a final decision. Keep an open mind when shopping for
formalwear and never shop from a catalog
and just presume it will look good on you.
You need to try on different styles, tie and
vest combinations to see which outfit looks
best on you.”
Classic is back when it comes to formalwear. Peak Lapels are a timeless
classic look that Hollywood stars have long embraced and now formalwear retailers are offering them with a narrower lapel and softer fabrics.
Shawl Lapels are also making a comeback. This style is also known as a
dinner jacket and has been updated to a smaller lapel, which isn’t as
round as in previous years. Two-and three-button tuxedos have long
been the favorite style for grooms, but now, one-button tuxedos are all
the rage. The main reason is that one-button tuxedos fit well on all body
shapes and allow for more of your accessories to show through.
A PERFECT MATCH
Long ties worn with a vest
have been the top choice by
brides for their grooms in
recent years. In the past, the
trend was to match the colors of the dresses to the long
tie and vest and pairing it
with a black tuxedo, but the
classic bow tie and cummerbund look is back! To be in
vogue, consider a classic
white or black bow tie with
matching cummerbund
worn with an updated one-button tuxedo jacket. For
those who still prefer not to
wear a bow tie, try just
matching the necktie to the
colors of your wedding and
pair it with a classic black
vest. This will give your
photographs a nice splash of
color, while still keeping your look modern. Your groom should always wear neu-tral-colored accessories. His accessories should match the color of your dress --
either all white or ivory. Black, silver, and champagne are also acceptable. The best
man and ushers should match the maid/matron of honor and bridesmaids, while
the dads should remain neutral with black, silver or champagne accessories.
SOMETHING BORROWED
Suit rentals have been a popular choice over the past two years, but unless you are
having a beach or destination wedding it is not a look you should be embracing. If
you are wearing a bridal gown then your groom and his ushers should be in tuxedos to match the elegance. Tuxedos are offered in many different styles and fabrics
and can be every bit as comfortable as a suit. Russo says, “Wedding attire should be
something special! You and your bridesmaids are all wearing special occasion
dresses that you wouldn‘t wear at any other time. Shouldn‘t your men have the
same attire? Select something special and different, so when you look back at your
photographs down the road, your groom and ushers look different than the guests
at your wedding.”
Always choose your formalwear from a specialist that has inventory in their stores.
They will be properly prepared to make any ill fitting outfits fit properly. Chain stores
tend to ship their outfits in and are not equipped to make any changes to your outfit once it arrives in their stores. A true formalwear specialist will handle any last
minute changes before you leave their store and always make sure an outfit fits properly. There is nothing worse than an ill-fitting outfit on such a special day. Y
